What happens after I've applied for CPT?

Once you've applied for CPT following all the directions in the application packet, here is how it will work.

  • If you are missing documents, a staff member will contact you. Please make sure to check your email regularly throughout the first three months after applying to the university.
  • You will receive your CPT I-20, if qualified, after we have processed it. Please allow 3-4 weeks for processing this request.
  • After classes have started, you'll be enrolled into the CPT coursework. This typically happens about 2 weeks after classes have started.
  • You will submit a CPT renewal application at the end of every semester. Please ensure that you turn in your renewal application in a timely manner. Delayed return of this packet could mean a gap in authorization.
